Who We Are
Clean Clams Local Union 1 is a Chicago-based brotherhood union dedicated to one principle: every clam should be clean. We are a democratic organization of passionate members who believe in collective action, solidarity, and the power of community to create change. Our union is open to all who share our belief in clean clams — regardless of background, profession, or experience level.
What We Mean by 'Clean Clams'
Clean clams represent a standard of hygiene, care, and respect. When we say 'clean clams,' we are talking about maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in every aspect of life. A clean clam is a cared-for clam. A dirty clam is unacceptable. It's that simple. Our union exists to promote, protect, and enforce those standards.
Why It Matters
Dirty clams affect everyone. They lower standards, they create health risks, and they show a lack of care and respect. Our union was born from the frustration of seeing dirty clams tolerated everywhere. We believe that by organizing and raising our voices together, we can change the culture and make clean clams the universal standard.
What We Do
